I Started a Newsletter…
If you are reading this then I actually achieved my only New Year’s resolution and started a newsletter. I am just as surprised as you are.
Why a Newsletter?
Every creator and their mother has started a newsletter. With the way that social media has been going, it seems like there might not be anywhere left for indie voices to be heard. I wanted to create a space that I could reach people and write long-form articles that had nowhere else to be published.
Embrace the Absurd
Another reason for starting my newsletter is that I’m expanding. About 6 months ago, I was in one of my classes and the teacher asked me, “What’s your brand?” I had no response. So I started looking at other writers, both at my level and above, and noticed how they were all making imprints for their comics. So I thought “Why not me?”
I spent a long time thinking of a brand. Then it hit me. At 2 a.m… on a Thursday. I was watching a Youtube video from a concert and the lead singer said something distinct: “Embrace the Absurd.” I was awestruck by how true that was in my own life, so I decided to make that my brand.
Gamma Head Press, my imprint, was born out of that. When I was a kid, I had a procedure done on my head called Gamma Knife, where a laser of radiation is used to clean out harmful material. It sounds absurd and fake, which is why I decided to have it be part of my brand and who I am.
Why Are We Here?
The goal with this newsletter is to bring a piece of me into your inbox twice a month. You’ll get long form content that you can’t find on social media. Be it an interview with a punk band, or a deep dive into a graphic novel. It’s all about embracing what makes life absurd yet worth living.
For the first newsletter, you are getting an exclusive look at the Logo for Gamma Head Press, created by the amazing Chris Benamati. This will be on all of our books, and I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking!
